Tony Blair pens withering attack on woke left , Labour and Keir Starmer after election losses Labour Party leader Keir Starmer andthe woke left have been slammed by former Labour Party leader and Prime Minister Tony Blair (Photo by Leon Neal/Getty Images) Former Prime Minister Tony Blair has launched a scathing attack on Keir Starmer and the “woke left” after the Labour Party suffered a slew of defeats at the local body elections. Blair, the last Labour Party Prime Minister to be elected, said the Labour Party needs to be rebuilt and that Starmer “lacks a compelling economic message”. “And the cultural message, because he is not clarifying it, is being defined by the ‘woke’ left, whose every statement gets cut-through courtesy of the right,” writes Blair in the New Statesman today.

Analysis: Anneliese Dodds departure was long time coming : CityAM

Analysis: Anneliese Dodds sacking was a long time coming Anneliese Dodds new position is party chair and policy review chief (Getty Images) Anneliese Dodds’ sacking last night makes her one of the shortest ever serving Labour shadow chancellors, after a little more than 13 months in the role. She impressed early on as she marked a clear tonal change from the far-left policies of Jeremy Corbyn and John McDonnell, before heavy criticism began to fall on her shoulders. Her new role as party chair and policy review chief is nothing to sneeze at, but she will no longer retain responsibility for shadowing the impossibly popular chancellor Rishi Sunak or setting the party’s economic direction.

What are the lessons of Welsh Labour s remarkable success?

Welsh Labour have hit 30 seats in the Senedd, equalling their best-ever performance since devolution having gained seats and votes since 2016. The First Minister, Mark Drakeford, can choose between a minority administration on an issue-by-issue basis or he could reconstruct the coalition between Labour and the Liberal Democrats. Welsh Labour defeated their opponents in every part of Wales. They took seats from Plaid Cymru in a bruising first election in charge for their leader, Adam Price, which saw Leanne Wood, his predecessor, lose her seat in the Rhondda. They won in the godless capital, where Mark Drakeford increased his majority. They saw off Conservative challenges in traditional marginals that the Tories have now held for more than a decade at Westminster, such as the Vale of Glamorgan, and saw off the Tory challenge in seats the party lost in 2019 (be that first-time “Red Wall” constituencies such as Wrexham or longtime stretch marginals such as Delyn).
