'We're not closing!': Firm's fury after SRA appears to read the last rites | News

By John Hyde2021-05-17T12:51:00+01:00 A west London firm has assured clients it is not shutting down despite an SRA notice seeming to suggest it was. The regulator published a decision notice last week stating that Lancasters, based in Chiswick, had been fined for breaches of its transparency rules and ‘is currently in the process of closing’. The regulated entity trading as Lancasters was indeed fined last July and has closed, but Lancasters Solicitors (Chiswick) Limited has taken over the business from the same address as a limited company – trading under the name Lancasters Solicitors – and has no plans to close. The misleading notice was posted last Thursday and was still there on Monday morning with the wording unchanged.

Requirement for terrorist offenders in NI to provide seven days notice before cross-border travel is 'proportionate', High Court hears

A new requirement for registered terrorist offenders in Northern Ireland to provide seven days notice before any cross-border travel is a proportionate step towards meeting the continued threat level, the High Court heard today. Counsel for the PSNI and British Government argued that the obligation could act as a deterrence against crime. Three people subjected to the regime as Registered Terrorist Offenders (RTOs) are taking legal action over its introduction. They include Derry man Anthony Lancaster, 58, who received a suspended sentence for acting as master of ceremonies at a 32 County Sovereignty Movement. In 2015 he was convicted of assisting in arranging or managing a meeting be addressed by a person who belonged or professed to belong to a proscribed organisation.
