CHICAGO, May 13, 2021 /PRNewswire/ Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) today announced the recipients who will receive a portion of $550,000 in total funding to help deliver critical COVID-19 resources to those most impacted by the pandemic. These grants are part of BCBSIL #VaccTogether Month – an initiative connecting communities with vaccines and bolstering local outreach and education efforts ahead of the summer months.
As part of BCBSIL s collaborative approach to help Illinois residents recover from COVID-19, the awarded funds empower 16 community-based organizations across the state to expand access to COVID-19 vaccinations, testing and education.
The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity from Feb. 7-13 is 3.6%.
A total of 2,125,375 doses of vaccine have been delivered to providers in Illinois, including Chicago, with an additional 445,200 doses allocated to federal government partners for long-term care facilities, bringing the total number delivered in Illinois to 2,570,575.
Vaccine appointments remain scarce even to those who are eligible before the expansion of group 1B. Efforts to vaccinate minorities continue to fall short, and data reviewed by the ABC7 I-Team shows more women are getting shots than men by a nearly 2-to-1 margin.
The IDPH said that vaccine distribution numbers are reported in real-time and vaccine administration numbers lag by as much as 72 hours.
Illinois health officials reported 1,420 new COVID-19 cases and 41 deaths Monday as they announced a strategy to ensure everyone who has gotten their first COVID vaccine can get a second dose within the necessary window.
