Portsmouth prepares to open Peirce Island Outdoor Pool June 21 Staff Report PORTSMOUTH  At the City Manager’s direction, the Recreation Department and DPW have worked with City Health Officer Kim McNamara to make several adjustments to the Peirce Island Outdoor Pool and bathhouse facility to allow the pool to open, by reservation, for the summer season, June 21 through Aug. 20. The pool will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week.  Only Portsmouth residents will be admitted, with a limited number in each one-hour reservation block. Admission is free. Reservations must be made online at the Recreation Department website, starting June 1. Walk-ups without a reservation will only be allowed entry if there are spots available. Swim lessons are not planned as of now due to the need for physical distance in the pool between instructor and student.

REDMOND, WA The Redmond Police Department introduced its new K-9 team this week after the crimefighting duo completed 400 hours of training. K-9 Griff joins officer Dan McNamara on patrol, following the retirement of Redmond s first police dog. McNamara and Griff take the mantle from K-9 Remy, who recently retired and now patrols the home of his former partner, officer Dan Smith. Griff, a German Shepard, was born in Germany in late 2017 and began his police training in Rochester, Wash., according to the police department. He first joined the McNamara family in September and has spent the months since in intensive training, along with other King County canine recruits.
