Ohio artist selected to design artwork at new federal courthouse in Des Moines

An artist from Ohio has been selected by the U.S. General Services Administration as the project artist for the Art in Architecture commission for the new U.S. Courthouse under construction in Des Moines.
Ann Hamilton is a visual artist who is recognized internationally for her large-scale multimedia, public projects and performance collaborations. She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas and a master’s degree from the Yale School of Art. Hamilton previously was a faculty member at the University of California at Santa Barbara and has been a faculty member at Ohio State University since 2011. A seven-member advisory panel that included GSA employees, a U.S. district judge, the project’s design architect, and three members of the public including art experts recommended Hamilton to the GSA from a pool of candidates. ....

New York City-based artist Alice Aycock plans to install her sculpture “Lift Off” at the new street entrance to Des Moines International Airport later this year.
A Des Moines foundation has firmed up plans for an $850,000 sculpture, roughly resembling a tornado, near a planned new entrance to the Des Moines airport.
New York City-based artist Alice Aycock will create the white sculpture, “Lift Off,” which has been commissioned by the Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation. The plan is to dedicate the piece in the fall. The work is her first permanent installation in Iowa. ....
