The 2021 Project GROWS Farmers Market Season opens with the Waynesboro Farmers Market at Constitution Park on Saturday, May 1 from 9 a.m. to noon and the North Augusta Farmers Market at its new location at Verona United Methodist Church on Wednesday, May 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Farmers and makers from around Greater Augusta will have vegetables, fruit, beef, pork, chicken, lamb, baked goods, jams and jellies, fresh cut flowers, plant starts, soaps, crafts, and more.
A whimsical pinwheel toy can brighten the eyes of a child while he or she plays with it but for two Family YMCAs of Greater Augusta, the pinwheel is serving as a symbol of tragedy that has struck many of its local families – child abuse.
With April being Child Abuse Prevention Month, the Aiken County Family YMCA and the Wilson Family YMCA in Augusta are displaying one pinwheel for each case of substantiated child abuse in the area in 2020. The Aiken location has 418 pinwheels for cases in Aiken and Barnwell counties while the Augusta location has 682 for Burke, Columbia, McDuffie and Richmond counties

SHENANDOAH VALLEY, Va. (WVIR) - In just one year, mental health screenings are up 250% in the Greater Augusta region, and the majority are young people.
Bruce Blair, the executive director of Mental Health America of Augusta says the screenings are a great first step toward help.
The mission of Mental Health America of Augusta is to build mentally healthy communities. They do that through education and training, providing resources, and advocacy.

STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) - On Wednesday, the Community Foundation of Central Blue Ridge distributed $400,000 worth of grants to 42 non-profit organizations in the city of Staunton and Augusta County. The funding is supported by CARES Act funding to directly support organizations that have seen an increase in need as the pandemic continues.
