Baby Minke Whale Had to Be Euthanized After Getting Stranded at Thames River

On Monday an injured baby minke whale that was helplessly stranded in the River Thames was put down after all hope for its survival was lost by rescuers. (Photo : Getty Images) The Discovery On Sunday the 9th of May, the 3 meters (10-foot-long) whale calf was initially discovered confined inside a concrete lock in Richmond, London. Hundreds of people assembled to observe rescuers float the animal again and drag it out heading for deeper water, but the whale loose its balance from the balloon-like cushion it had been kept in and started to swim back away from the sea (upriver). 

Chaos Underwater Ensued as 70 Orcas Attacked and Killed Lone Blue Whale

(Photo : Silvana Palacios) Whale Watching  Initially, it appeared like a usual day of whale watching, Kristy Brown, a marine biologist with Naturaliste Charters, a company that owned whale-watching tours located in Western Australia revealed. Brown wrote in a blog post of March 16 that the vessel occurred upon two pods of orcas in Bremer Bay Canyon, around 45 kilometers (28 miles) away from the coast, that was playing and surfing the waves.

Male Humpback Whale Survives 4-Hour Attack By Troop Of Orcas

Close A gang of orcas attacked a humpback whale for 4 hours and took his dorsal fin but not his life.  In Australia, whale watchers spotted a rare sight last week when two pods of orcas ganged up and attacked a healthy young humpback whale. As stated by the Sydney Morning Herald, the humpback whale, which is a 2- to 3-year-old male, survived the attack, even though they took his dorsal fin. (Photo : Pixabay) The Whale Watchers Gemma Sharp, the joint owner of Australia Whale Watcher, who was present at the scene during the attack on Feb.17, 2021, told the newspaper that they knew they were witnessing something significant. The gang of orcas was in all-out attack mode and the humpback whale was desperately trying to protect itself.
