City Council presents Solomon with Killeen Star Award

Joseph Solomon Sr., executive director of the Refuge Corporation, received the Killeen Star Award from Councilmember Debbie Nash-King in council chambers on Tuesday.Â The Refuge Corporation was started in 1997 and is a nonprofit community service organization and outreach of The Christian House of Prayer Ministries. They aim to help strengthen and preserve families and empower the lives of adults and youth through various programs, which address their housing, health, educational, vocational, economical, mental and emotional needs.

Mobile food pantry scheduled for Saturday

The mobile food pantry is a ministry of the church. Distribution is done in a drive-thru format. Volunteers will come through the lines checking people in and getting the number of families and the number of individuals being served. Each family receives around 50 to 60 pounds of food, which usually includes fresh produce, fresh dairy, fresh meats and other non-perishable goods. The mobile food pantry happens on the third Saturday of every month. Locations can vary. Follow the Refuge Mobile Food Pantry on Facebook for notifications of the location of upcoming events.
