The Internet Society Announces New Appointments to the Public Interest Registry Board of Directors

24 May, 2021 â The Internet Society today announced the appointment of Saerin Cho to the Public Interest Registry (PIR) Board of Directors and the re-appointment of Jeffrey Bedser and Narelle Clark. In addition, Eric Burger is returning to the PIR Board. These board members will take their seats beginning in July 1, 2021. Jeffrey Bedser and Eric Burger will serve three-year terms, and Saerin Cho and Narelle Clark will serve two-year terms.
Saerin Cho is Chief Counsel of Global Eligibility and an Associate General Counsel at TechSoup, a US-based global technology nonprofit that connects NGOs with critical resources worldwide. Eric Burger is Research Professor of Computer Science at Georgetown University. He was reappointed to the PIR Board of Directors after spending the past four years working in government service.

Phishing Activity Trends Report reveals that the number of phishing attacks observed by APWG members grew through 2020, fully doubling over the course of the year. Attacks peaked in October 2020, with a high of 225,304 new phishing sites appearing in that month alone, breaking all previous monthly records.

In Brazil, security firm Axur saw a slower growth in the number of phishing attacks that targeted Brazilian companies and consumers in Brazil. But overall, Axur observed almost twice as many such phishing sites in 2020 as it did in 2019, a concerning year-over-year growth.
