Beth Shalom to Host Refugee Shabbat | Bloom Magazine

Congregation Beth Shalom. Photo by Rodney Margison On Friday, March 5 at 7:30 p.m., Congregation Beth Shalom will hold a special Refugee Shabbat via Zoom. The Refugee Shabbat is sponsored by the Hebrew Immigration Aid Society (HIAS), an organization that was founded to help rescue Jews in Eastern Europe in the late 1800s. The organization later evolved to help Jewish people during the Holocaust. HIAS has long had an office at Ellis Island, where the organization now helps refugees and asylum seekers of all faiths with legal assistance, clothing, shelter, language skills, cultural adjustment, and more.
