The Chautauqua County Department of Public Facilities has announced its schedule for planned road and bridge work this year.
Work includes bridge/culvert replacements and rehabilitation, drainage projects, general maintenance, surface treating projects, and paving. Funding comes from a variety of sources, including the New York State Consolidated Highway Improvement Program, PAVE-NY, the Federal government and Chautauqua County.
“This will be a busy construction season as projects that were deferred from last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic are being scheduled in addition to the required projects this year,” said Brad Bentley, public facilities director. “With the additional funding that is expected from the New York State budget, the department is prepared to complete additional road and bridge projects as we progress through the construction plans this year. Chautauqua County will be paving 22 miles of county roads and rehabilitating or replacing over 18 bridges as part of the 2021 construction program. County Executive

Brad Bentley said this year’s program makes use of County forces, contracted labor, and shared services.
Wendel said $4-point-5 million dollars is budgeted for county highway and bridge capital work under the CHIPS and PAVE NY programs, with the County expecting to receive an additional $2-point-1 million dollars as part of funding increases to CHIPS, PAVE NY, and Extreme Weather Programs from the most recent New York State budget.
