If local fundraising efforts are successful, the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport would be further adorned with a permanent bronze statue of its namesake.
The first monument to Douglass, which was also the first monument in the country dedicated to the accomplishments of a Black man, was installed in 1899 at a train station near the present-day intersection of St. Paul and Central Ave.
