In the aftermath of the bloodbath that was the First World War, a visit by Canadaâs Governor General was just the tonic Kingston needed.
It was June 1919, and the communityâs leaders from Royal Military College, Queenâs University and Kingston city council prepared for His Excellency the Duke of Devonshireâs visit down to the last detail. Speeches of welcome for the vice-regal guest were written, rewritten and then rehearsed over and over again.
