Planning of Bridge Day 2021 to move forward

FAYETTEVILLE — Despite pleas from several speakers detailing public health safety concerns, the Bridge Day Commission opted Wednesday to move forward with planning for Bridge Day on Oct. 16.

USDA loan for new Fayette County Prison finalized

The funding for the ongoing Fayette County Prison project has been finalized, with the county receiving a $51 million Community Facilities Direct Loan from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). “With this loan, we can keep the cost down for our taxpayers,” Commissioner Vincent Vicites said. “We can give the most cost-effective approach possible to the citizens of Fayette County, and that’s why this is such a big deal.” The new prison will be located at the site of the former U.S. Army Reserve Center on McClellandtown Road in Uniontown, with bidding for construction slated to begin this month.

File photo FAYETTEVILLE — Limited access to the Fayette County Courthouse and associated buildings will remain in effect until at least Jan. 22, according to a judicial emergency declared by Chief Judge Thomas H. Ewing. The emergency will result in, among other things, the postponement of the January session of the Fayette County grand jury, which was to start on Jan. 12.
