On April fifteenth, at 8:42 p.m., I had a drink. Not on Zoom. Not alone on my couch. Not outside, under a heat lamp. Nope. Inside, on a stool, at the actual, physical bar. For the first time in more than a year. To sit shoulder to shoulder with friends again, chatting with the bartender about esoteric spirits, hearing the laughter of strangers it felt new and raw. Even with the masked staff and social distancing, the experience was unexpectedly life-affirming. All of a sudden, I felt like me again.
Perhaps it was what I was drinking at Viridian, an Asian American bar in Oakland, one of the places on this year’s Best Bars list; many of the cocktails nodded to flavors of Asian candies my dad would surprise me with when he returned from grocery runs in New York’s Chinatown. But I suspect that I would have been hit with joy if it was any drink at any bar that had reopened its doors to do what bars do best: hospitality.

Crude oil prices rallied on Wednesday on the back of federal data from the United States that suggested the balance between supply and demand was leveling out, despite pandemic limits on activity.
The price for Brent crude oil inched closer to the psychological threshold of $60 per barrel in trading Wednesday, while West Texas Intermediate, the U.S. benchmark for the price of oil, moved close to levels not seen since late January, at nearly $56 per barrel.

If a year of disguised cake videos has taught us is anything, it’s that America’s trust in desserts has been eroded. Now one of New York’s most iconic dishes has its own cake hack moment with a new menu item at Lower East Side cocktail bar Double Chicken Please, which looks like a hot dog but is far from it.
Earlier this week, bar owner GN Chan set up a street cart in front of the bar called “Ice Ice Weenies,” where he’s selling hot cocktails and hot dog-shaped ice creams. The deceptive dessert is the work of Double Chicken Please chef Mark Chou, who makes the frankfurters using dark chocolate and housemade vanilla bean ice cream. The $6.90 dessert can also be topped with “mustard,” made from salted duck yolks that have been blended with condensed milk, and “ketchup,” which is actually hot honey. The hot dog’s bun is deep breaths just a normal potato roll from Martin’s.
