Man charged with first-degree murder after shooting death in Rolla Phelp s County Sheriff s Office ROLLA, Mo. (KMIZ) A Rolla man is charged with first-degree murder and other charges after a man dies Thursday night after a shooting. According to a news release from the Phelp s County Sheriff s Office, around 11:25 p.m. Thursday night, deputies responded to a report of shots fired in the 11000 block of Highway 72. In the investigation, officers said they found a critically wounded 35-year-old man lying in the driveway with a gunshot wound. The news release reported the man was identified as Michael Jonathan Schmitt of St. James, Missouri. He was transported to Phelps Health where he later died.

Phelps County Sheriff’s Department investigating homicide Lori Amos Lamos@gannett.com According to Phelps County Sheriff Michael Kirn, a 32-year-old Rolla man has been arrested in connection with a death of a 35-year-old St. James man.  According to Kirn, law enforcement officers responded to the 11000 block of Highway 72 for a report of a shooting at Stately Mansions Mobile Home Park Thursday night.  During the initial investigation, Kirn, in a news release said, officers found a white male lying on the driveway critically wounded from an apparent gunshot. According to Kirn, the 35-year-old, identified as Michael Schmitt, of St. James, was transported to Phelps Health, where Coroner Ernie Coverdell pronounced him dead from a single gunshot wound.
