Monadnock Ledger-Transcript - Local school districts pitch plans for 2021-22 ahead of Sununu s deadline

Published: 6/9/2021 4:00:55 PM The Department of Education has required school districts put into place a plan for the 2021-22 school year by June 23, and local districts are starting to make decisions about what the fall will look like. Earlier this year, Gov. Chris Sununu announced all K-12 schools must offer a full-time, in-person learning as of April 19, and all local schools have been operating full-time since then, if they weren’t already, but still offered a fully-remote option. Local school districts appear ready to carry on the five-day in-person schedule in the fall, according to current reopening plan discussions. On Monday, the Jaffrey-Rindge Cooperative School Board made two adjustments to its current framework, effective immediately, and discussed a community survey asking parents their preferences for the fall.

Monadnock Ledger-Transcript - Town seeks second hearing

Monadnock Ledger-Transcript Published: 6/3/2021 12:08:16 PM The Francestown Select Board is pursuing a rehearing after the state Housing Appeals Board reversed the town Planning Board’s rejection of a four-lot subdivision on the corner of Stevens Road and the 2nd NH Turnpike. The HAB ruled in favor of landowners Ron and Melissa Shattuck in a May 7 order, the first conclusion they handed down since forming in 2020. In their ruling, the HAB said that the Francestown Planning Board had made an “unreasonable” decision in rejecting the subdivision and had not cited any objective zoning ordinance violations in their decision. The Select Board voted 2-1 to proceed with the rehearing request on Monday, May 24, Select Board Chair Henry Kunhardt said. A rehearing is a requisite step if the case were ever to go to the state Supreme Court, he said.

Staff Photo by Abbe Hamilton Published: 5/25/2021 11:13:58 AM The Francestown Fire Department extinguished a fire that destroyed a lawnmower and a shed on Dennison Pond Road on Saturday. First responders were summoned to the scene at 1:31 p.m., after a landowner’s lawnmower caught fire while they were working on it, Fire Chief Larry Kullgren said. The fire spread to an eight-by-ten-foot shed, in which fuel was being stored, he said. Although dispatchers summoned mutual aid agencies due to the nature of the incident, Francestown firefighters were first on the scene and were able to get it under control in about fifteen minutes, Kullgren said. The situation was ruled an accident, he said.
