Councillor to take on Children and Families portfolio

COUNCILLOR Sue Duffy (Lab, Thornton and Allerton) has been named as the new Executive Member for Children and Families at Bradford Council.
She fills the role left vacant after the previous portfolio holder, Councillor Adrian Farley, lost his seat on the Council at this month s local elections.
The portfolio includes Children s Services - a department that is attempting to turn itself around after being judged inadequate by Ofsted in 2018.
Cllr Duffy, a councillor for Thornton and Allerton ward since 2015, has held a number of positions including Chair of Employee Appeals for the past five years, Deputy Chair of Corporate Scrutiny, on school appeals and as Executive Assistant she has been working with Public Health on the Living Well strategy. Shops used 'sophisticated' hiding places, including ceiling chamber lowered by hydraulic piston, to store illegal cigarettes

THE owner of two Bradford shops used a number of secret compartments, including a remote controlled hydraulic chamber, to hide the counterfeit tobacco that he sold to boost his business.
Giedrius Linkevicius pleaded guilty to a string of charges related to the sale of counterfeit cigarettes when he appeared at Bradford Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
He was ordered to pay almost £10,000, and told to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work.
Linkevicius, Director of Leo Food Stores, ran two shops, 7 Days store on Sticker Lane and Eko Polski on Legrams Lane, and the Court heard that he sold the counterfeit cigarettes because many of his Eastern European clientele did not wish to purchase full cost, legal cigarettes. ....
