In the year since the first COVID-19 case was detected, Multnomah County has stepped up in so many ways to help our residents navigate incredible, frequent and oftentimes cascading challenges. We re taking the lessons we ve learned forward to both help end the pandemic as quickly as possible and to inform major initiatives around housing, mental health and early childhood education. Reopening depends on lowering case counts, hospitalizations and deaths. So Multnomah County is aggressively using the small share of vaccines it receives from the state to reach people at highest risk of getting sick and dying. ....
February 24 2021 Lynn Peterson: Let s work together to ensure health care, social justice, equitable economic growth and dignified housing for everyone. This has been the most difficult year many of us can remember. I won t recount all of the challenges we are facing together you know them; you feel them daily. As your Metro Council president, I have the privilege of working with and for incredibly resilient Oregonians. And despite the challenges that we face, I look with optimism toward our future. This is a region has recovered from recessions before. And as we prepare to recover from this one, I am inspired by the commitment to equity and resiliency for all that I have seen throughout these many challenging months. ....
House Democrats recognize the state s long, painful, racist history as well as the many ways that bias and racism are threaded through everyday life and institutions. We will take on urgently needed reforms to policing and criminal justice systems so that everyone is able to feel truly safe. Economic recovery for every part of Oregon Small businesses across Oregon have been hit hard by the pandemic many have shuttered permanently or are on the brink of closing. Workers, especially in service, retail and low-wage industries, have struggled to pay their bills, and those in essential industries risked their health on the job.
