So even though the shooting comes at a time when violence against asianamericans is surging and even though of the eight victims, six were of asian descent, seven were women, prosecutors have not yet said whether they will try the murder as hate crimes. Charging one with a hate crime is not just based on ones race, it can also be based on ones sex. We do know that he targeted women specifically in the shooting spree. So i will be very surprised if hes not charged with a hate crime, but i cant speak to what prosecutors will do in that regard. Okay.
