QUETTA: Speakers at a round table conference on Thursday stressed the need for creating an enabling environment for women empowerment through better laws and policies. The discussion focused on Balochistan’s progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 5-gender equality and SDG 10-reduced inequalities and the legal commitments under Convention on Elimination of Discrimination Against Women and the role parliamentarians can play. It was noted during the discussion that Pakistan was the first country to integrate the SDGs in its national development agendas and that the provincial SDG units were working in this regard. KP law on domestic violence hailed as landmark legislation National March 3, 2021 PESHAWAR: The participants of a consultation here on Tuesday hailed the KP Domestic Violence Against Women (Prevention & Protection) Act 2021 as a landmark legislation and milestone. The consultation was organised by Aawaz-II Programme which is managed by the British Council with support from UK Aid. It works with local communities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab to promote the rights of children, women, youth, and other vulnerable groups, to work towards a more inclusive, tolerant and peaceful Pakistan. Attended by civil society activists, lawyers and journalists, the consultation was arranged in partnership with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women to celebrate the passage of the legislation. ....
Peshawar February 24, 2021 PESHAWAR: The KP Assembly lawmakers here on Tuesday vowed to strengthen the implementation and oversight of the pro-women laws including those on domestic violence and reproductive health. They were speaking at a consultation jointly hosted by Blue Veins and Awaz-Centre for Development Services (CDS) Pakistan, non-governmental organizations. The event was arranged in collaboration with the Women Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) of the KP Assembly and Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Department. KP Assembly Deputy Speaker Mehmood Jan, MPAs, WPC members, officials from the Law, Population Welfare and Social Welfare departments and civil society organisations.
