In training instructions shared with candidates, Wipro has warned that if new hires do not clear its Project Readiness Program (PRP) with an overall score of at least 60 percent, they will be terminated immediately.
The move has since garnered widespread criticism with employees union NITES demanding the company reconsider its ‘unjust’ and ‘unacceptable’ decision. It has also called for the management to engage in meaningful dialogue with the union to find a mutually beneficial solution.
The development comes at a time when tens of thousands of tech employees have been laid off across the globe amid looming recession fears. Earlier this year, the company had also terminated freshers after they failed in the internal test over poor performance.
In an internal email, Wipro said the variable pay of employees would depend on the company’s performance as well as the performance of the business unit in which employees are working. aaa
