The picture taken at a Memorial Day parade in 1942 may be the last ever photograph of Alfred W. Maxwell Jr. before he was killed in action on Guadalcanal during World War II.
The inscription found on the photo read: "Winthrop Memorial Day Parade 1942, Alfred W. Maxwell on left, James Hinds on right. Guard of Honor. A. Maxwell killed in action at Guadalcanal Sept. 10. 1942."
