Thomas recently made presentations on wildlife species, via Zoom, to first- and second-graders at Shelter Rock Elementary School on Long Island, New York. She held two presentations, one focusing on bald eagles, and another featuring reptiles and amphibians.

Lisa Slobodzian named Ward Two councilman

The Beacon After working for the National Park Service for more than 32 years, Port Clinton native Lisa Slobodzian has returned home and was recently appointed to the vacant Ward Two seat on Port Clinton City Council. She was sworn in by Mayor Mike Snider. BY D’ARCY PATRICK EGAN After a 32-year career with the National Park Service’s Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Port Clinton native Lisa Slobodzian, 55, has decided she isn’t ready for full retirement just yet. A member of the Port Clinton High School’s Class of 1983, Slobodzian recently accepted an appointment by the Ottawa County Republican Party to fill the vacant Ward Two term on Port Clinton City Council. She replaces Brian Hild, who resigned on Monday, Dec. 7, after deciding to move his family out of Ward Two.
