around january 6th which would have been a nightmare. there s a bigger take away that when we dismiss these fringe theories of people being whack-os and having very, very ridiculous absurd takes what our government should be and designed to do, it s not like they go away. they stay there. and they grow. and they fester. and we have not eliminated them by delegitimizing them. we don t just have to delegitimize them, we have to call them out. ignoring them does not make them disappear. i think that eastman and what we re seeing here is a classic example of that. he did not go away, went back into his hole until a time that was profitable for him to come out, time such as that and now we have to deal with that on a bigger scale. when we get into these conversations about fringe theories, what seems to be absurd, never work, never be a big deal, we have to be mindful that fringe theories become false equivalencies that theories that people latch on
measures campaign. promote fringe and hope they break something. this may not sound like much of a plan. it sometimes works. putin has been openly building his portfolio of whack os for a while. and they have begun breaking things. perhaps you re old enough to remember a time when a u.s. senator, any and all u.s. senators would dismiss any talk of succession as crazy and fringe. and something a few southerners tried some years back that didn t end well. back when we called them the soviets. the idea of the russians tinkering with our american society, say nothing of interfering and in our presidential elections and breaking down the post war atlantic alliance. that was abhorrent 50 years ago. but grievance politics, social media and the cheap anonymity.
