Fort Wayne, Ind. – The St. Joseph Community Health Foundation is investing more than $500,000 in local nonprofits and grassroots organizations that work with low-income and vulnerable residents.
The Board of Directors approved the latest round of grants this week, bringing the total number of grants awarded since January 1, 2021 to 27.
“All of the grantees have gone through a turbulent time where regular services and revenue streams have been disrupted due to the pandemic,” says Meg Distler, St. Joe Foundation executive director. “Our staff, grants committee, and Board of Directors have spent a lot of time learning about the challenges facing our nonprofit partners; these funds should help the grantees navigate these difficult times so they can continue to serve our community’s most vulnerable residents.” ....

East Lancashire Railway spread festive cheer by donating 16,000 mince pies to charity

East Lancashire Railway donated 16,000 mince pies to local hospitals, community centres and food banks over Christmas
The East Lancashire Railway (ELR) brought some much-needed festive cheer to local hospitals, community centres and food banks at Christmas by donating over 16,000 mince pies to them.
Heywood Foodbank, Rochdale Soup Kitchen and Middleton Foodbank were among the 11 organisations to receive the donations from the heritage railway, based in Bury and Greater Manchester.
The gesture comes after the ELR was forced to cancel its cherished Santa Specials services in December - an annual fixture in the railway’s calendar for 30 years - which would have seen families enjoy a steam train ride to Rawtenstall through the Irwell Valley, with a chance to meet Santa and his elves. ....
