Weinberg, Turner Bill Aimed to Protect Older Workers, Passes Labor Committee May 6, 2021, 12:34 pm | in Weinberg, Turner Bill Aimed to Protect Older Workers, Passes Labor Committee   Trenton – Recognizing that the State’s workforce is graying, and that current law is outdated and fails to protect older workers from age bias, the Senate Labor Committee passed legislation today sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg and Senator Shirley Turner that would amend laws on the books in order to extend age discrimination protections for State employees.   The amendments include the deletion of a provision dating back to 1938 that permits an employer to force retirement on an individual of a particular age if that employer can show that “age bears a manifest relationship to the employment in question.”

Senators Corrado and Weinberg Call for Personal Service to Relieve Unemployment Benefits Crisis April 26, 2021, 11:18 am | in Claimants are Finding it Impossible to Prove Their Identities Online Frustrated by the growing number of residents who are having their unemployment benefits blocked, Senator Kristin Corrado and Senator Loretta Weinberg today called on the Department of Labor and the Murphy administration to open unemployment offices for in-person sessions so unemployed workers can have their claims settled. Corrado said applicants are reporting their claims have been flagged as fraudulent, and they have to prove their identities before the funds will be released. Without in-person access to unemployment personnel, they are being directed to an online system that does not work.

I am joining with Sen. Weinberg and calling on the commissioner to clean up this mess now.”
