Trenton – In response to the lack of resources for parents following a stillbirth, the Senate approved legislation sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg and Senator Dawn Addiego, which would establish the Stillbirth Resource Center, the Regional Fetal and Infant Mortality Review Committee, and other programs for the prevention and reduction of stillbirth.
“The loss of a child through stillbirth is a devastating and traumatic event for many families, but this type of loss is not widely recognized, leaving families with little support and resources to cope with this tragic loss,” said Senator Weinberg (D-Bergen). “The cause of stillbirths is not widely known, making them difficult to prevent. Weinberg, Turner Bill Aimed to Protect Older Workers, Passes Labor Committee
Trenton – Recognizing that the State’s workforce is graying, and that current law is outdated and fails to protect older workers from age bias, the Senate Labor Committee passed legislation today sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg and Senator Shirley Turner that would amend laws on the books in order to extend age discrimination protections for State employees.
The amendments include the deletion of a provision dating back to 1938 that permits an employer to force retirement on an individual of a particular age if that employer can show that “age bears a manifest relationship to the employment in question.”

Claimants are Finding it Impossible to Prove Their Identities Online
Frustrated by the growing number of residents who are having their unemployment benefits blocked, Senator Kristin Corrado and Senator Loretta Weinberg today called on the Department of Labor and the Murphy administration to open unemployment offices for in-person sessions so unemployed workers can have their claims settled.
Corrado said applicants are reporting their claims have been flagged as fraudulent, and they have to prove their identities before the funds will be released. Without in-person access to unemployment personnel, they are being directed to an online system that does not work.

Corrado & Weinberg Demand More from Labor Department
TRENTON – A year into the COVID pandemic, frustrations with the performance of the Department of Labor persist, and Senators Kristin Corrado and Loretta Weinberg wrote to Commissioner Rob Asaro-Angelo urging immediate changes to improve the department’s responsiveness to desperate residents who have lost their jobs.
“The ongoing situation is a travesty,” said Corrado (R-Bergen, Essex, Morris and Passaic). “This far into the pandemic, and hard-working New Jersey residents cannot get their checks, cannot get answers, and cannot even speak with people who may be able to help. I am joining with Sen. Weinberg and calling on the commissioner to clean up this mess now.”
