joining us now on the phone is clayton neville, a local radio reporter for wbap in dallas. clayton, you ve been there for several hours now. set the scene for us. what is the mood on the ground, how does everything feel in the local areasome area? well, it s a dangerous situation, there s no doubt about that. the media teams are about a quarter mile or so away from the seven going here in the immediate area. it s been evacuated and completely blocked off to through traffic. so a heavy police presence, we re talking colleyville police, which is the local police department, regional police, state police and the fbi. we re being told that the fbi is part of the ongoing negotiation with the suspect. as far as the scene is concerned, we re staged in a church nearby, and there s several people who are not allowed back in their neighborhood that are here waiting word from police that they can go back in. but at this point it s still
pandora and other new platform devices are showing us that while music radio may not be extinct it is arguably obsolete, that people can program their own music station, if you will, without using f.m. of course, in every market there s a lousy rated f.m. station that s not generating revenue. so why in the heck would you write a check to play music on it? that s basically where it is so you re going to have to get innovative with program. will you see big simulcasting? would you see some more television-type audio being placed on f.m. stations across the country? the lowest-hanging fruit are the existing a.m. stations with a foundering f.m. sister station. fact is, 80% of time spent listening to radio is on f. m. no matter how good the a.m. programming is most people just aren t there. wbap in dallas/ft. worth, one of the biggest a. m. stations in
