new video, new testimony. they interviewed 1,000 different witnesses. and among those witnesses, ivanka trump. who was, let s remember, a first-hand wince. she was at the white house on january 6th. i think there will be other family members who have also gone in to testify. maybe we will see attorney general, then attorney general bill barr, who played a key role because the committee wants to make the point that on december 1st, bill barr told donald trump there was no significant election fraud, and yet he kept going down this path. kept going and going. so much of the plotting for this coup attempt, jeffrey, as you know, and as our viewers know, it happened behind the scenes. so how do they bring that forward during the course of this public hearing? you know, the famous watergate question was what did the president know and when did he know it? i think it s a little different. i think the question here is what did donald trump do? because what we don t know is
welcome back to dateline. i m craig melvin. rusty sneiderman s wife andrea took the stand in her boss murder trial, and prosecutors had some tough questions for her. here again is dennis murphy. he pretended to be my friend, and i was doing the best that i can to deal with that situation. and he had my whole life wrapped up. jurors had heard a harrowing tale from rusty sneiderman s widow of a monster of a boss who became obsessed with his new hire, andrea. but now the prosecution was suggesting that the toxic triangle among boss, employee, and husband was even more complicated than it seemed. and that the wife, andrea, was holding back important details of her story. prosecutor don geary. there was this kind of watergate question. what did she know and when did she know it? we went in, we knew she was lying. we told her we knew she was lying and that didn t seem to affect her.
it is optimistic it will hear testimony from former trump officials. who should be subpoenaed in your mind? what do you think is most important and what are the chances it happens? one of the key questions, of course, it s the old watergate question. who knew what and when? and so i think that the committee is going to need to hear from all of these pop who were around the president leading up to january 6th. how planned out was this? we don t know the answer to that question. what was the interaction between people inside the oval office, i m thinking of the chief of staff, the many hangers-on with the leaders of this movement. i was at the rally the night before. i went incognito to the rally the night before and there were lots and lots of right wing luminaries there. how much communication had toured? what, by the way, was the president doing and thinking? what was the president doing and thinking as these insurgents were attacking our democracy? i think americans, just as they
not in the business of giving opinions, in terms of learn it guy who has been reporting on these kinds of things. what impact does this new news have on the investigation going forward. would it materialize on this information before it was reported. the contact here is that the impeachment inquiry in the house representatives have struggled with this question as you sort of put in your opening of what did trump know and when did he know it. that classic watergate question. defenders of the president have said we don t know what trump was thinking c. we don t know what trump s intent was here. in any piece of evidence that shows his extent of knowledge and suggests how that influences his actions is important, includes future proceedings
