i think it s going to be the longest and deadliest tornado event in u.s. history. i ve got towns that are gone, that are just i mean, gone. you think you d go door to door to check on people and see if there are okay. there are no doors. the question is, is somebody in the rubble of thousands upon thousands of structures? i mean, it is devastating. words can hardly describe some of the pictures we ve seen. at any moment we are expecting another update from the governor along with local, state, and federal officials. my colleague boris sanchez is on the ground in mayfield, kentucky, helping to cover this story from every angle. reporter: thanks, phil. and you re absolutely right. you are at a loss for words looking at the magnitude of destruction across eight states. it s difficult to fathom when you see the power of mother nature to wreak havoc and to erase entire communities from the map. in dawson springs, kentucky, the list of missing people is now eight pages long
completely leveled including mayfield and western kentucky, the governor says more than 100 people could be dead after a tornado, thousands are facing a long hard road to recovery, and meantime workers in illinois said they do not expect to find any more survivors in the rubble of an amazon warehouse, six people were killed when a wall the length of a football field collapse during the storm. we have fox news coverage, charles watson will bring us the very latest of the cleanup in illinois but fertile go to steve harrigan live in mayfield kentucky. that rising death toll is really no surprise when you look at downtown mayfield. it s a stunning view of what was the heart of the city of 10000 now it s a layer after layer of debris parts of buildings on top of cars and more cars. i talked to an engineer this morning who is evaluated the damage and his words were complete devastation as he walked by. as a death toll continues to rise we talked to a number of people who survived
residents. people need to get ready for life-threatening storm surge that could be up to 16 feet that officials are now calling non-survivable. brian: all right. we have fox team coverage all morning long. senior meteorologist janice dean has been all morning long. tracking the storm on the ground. fox weather multi journalist brady campbell. nicole valdes in tampa and we begin in clearwater beach with robert ray. hey, robert. yeah. good morning, guys, from clearwater beach we have experienced what we expected and that is the storm surge that is coming in to clearwater beach here this morning. this is coronado street here and right off of the gulf of mexico. what do we see? we see at least a foot of water here come in. many of these roads are inundated around clearwater beach. this is what the anticipation was of this storm as overnight it just actually in the past hour kicked up to a category 4 major hurricane as it s making its way to the southeast of tallahassee where
they were covered, water over the mailboxes. i need you to get up in there, and i m going to hand her to you, and and you ve got to hold her.
