Underscored by new reporting from nbc news on how he single handedly blocked a bipartisan piece of legislation that would have tightened the rules around foreign influence and lobbying in washington. But perhaps more pressingly for the democrats is what Senator Menendez will do to the party as a whole in next years election. The democrats have been working for years to paint republicans as the ones tolerant of corruption, the ones who have locked the other way at wrong doing, the ones who are okay with their standard bearer being someone under indictment.
