Promotion of peace, tolerance in universities underscored Islamabad May 1, 2021 Islamabad : The Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Shaoor Foundation, National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA), Paigham-e-Pakistan, and Iqra University jointly hosted an online conference of the vice-chancellors on academia’s response to the challenge of religious extremism. A total of 40 VCs from Islamabad and across Sindh attended the conference and discussed the issue of extremism in the country. They approved a set of recommendations for the promotion of peace and tolerance at universities. According to them, there is a need for the promotion of peace and civic education of students through co-curricular activities, faculty training on conflict resolution, the establishment of peace platforms, student societies, and elected bodies for peace and improvement in curriculum and pedagogy.

To check export of matters linking to nukes, WMDs: Cabinet okays powers to SECD

National April 21, 2021 ISLAMABAD: The Federal Cabinet Tuesday approved the delegation of some powers to the Strategic Export Control Division (SECD) with a view to ensuring effective implementation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1540 about control on the export of goods, technology and instruments related to nuclear and biological weapons and more effective implementation of Pakistan’s commitment to check the spread of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs). The move would enable the division to make timely decisions in that regard. For bringing about administrative improvement in the Federal Medical Teaching Institutes and allied teaching hospitals, Federal Medical Teaching Institute Ordinance 2020 promulgated by the president had already been implemented in various institutions.

Govt approves centralised database plan for food stock - Newspaper

Under the system the centre will have the latest information on the sale and purchase of wheat by provinces as their governments would be bound to share details of wheat stocks with the centre. Reuters ISLAMABAD: The cabinet on Tuesday decided to establish a centralised database to maintain record of stocks of essential food items available with the federal and provincial governments to ensure the country does not face shortage. The cabinet meeting, which was presided over by Prime Minister Imran Khan, also took several other decisions, including deferring a proposal to exempt Kartarpur (Sikhs’ religious site) project from the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules and allowing transportation of Unicef trucks from Karachi port to Kabul.

Cabinet approves establishment of Centralized Database for basic food items

Daily Times April 21, 2021 The Federal Cabinet, in order to ensure timely decisions about basic food items in the country, demand and supply, assessment of prices, transportation and further strengthening of cooperation between the federal and provincial governments, Tuesday approved the establishment of a Centralized Database. Prime Minister Imran Khan presided over the cabinet meeting, which also accorded an in-principle approval to the proposed law for the establishment of Centralized Database. The meeting welcomed the inclusion of Shaukat Tareen as finance minister in the cabinet. The prime minister stressed for early completion of the process for electronic voting machine and the right of vote to the overseas Pakistanis. The meeting was briefed about the progress made so far in that respect.
