Raleigh, N.C. A three-judge panel of the state Court of Appeals ruled unanimously Tuesday against an attempt by an environmental group to void a lease for a gravel mine near Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority agreed in March 2019 to a 25-year lease with Wake Stone Corp. for a quarry adjacent to the airport. The Umstead Coalition, along with a couple who live next to the planned quarry and a mountain biking group, alleged in a lawsuit that the lease deal was illegal because officials in Raleigh, Durham, Wake County, Durham County and the Federal Aviation Administration didn t sign off on it and the public was given no opportunity to comment.
