Church in Howell decided to put his sexual assault trial on hold until next month to allow for two surprise witnesses to return to New Jersey to testify on his behalf. The surprise witnesses, a retired schoolteacher and her husband, are expected to rebut testimony given by the woman who has accused the Rev. Henry Brendan Williams of molesting her on three occasions in the late 1990s, when she was a child Superior Court Judge Ellen Torregrossa-O’Connor ruled Wednesday that the pair, who only came forward to defense attorney Robert Konzelmann last weekend, could testify. However, the judge would not allow them to provide their testimony over the Zoom internet platform, as Konzelmann had requested. The last-minute witnesses are vacationing in South Carolina and are not due back in New Jersey until the end of the month, and they are unwilling to make a 14-hour drive each way to testify at the trial before then, ....
