Itâs been an extraordinary year by nearly every estimation â and despite the pandemic, billionairesâ wealth has continued to grow (up $5.1 trillion in total from 2020). There are the mainstays, Jeff Bezos sits at the top for the fourth consecutive year, then the second to sixth positions are tussled between by the regular fixtures of Elon Musk, Bernard Arnault, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and Warren Buffett (in that order).
But, further down the list, there are a wealth of newcomers to the three comma club â 63 women joining for the first time, a handful of self-made billionaires in their 20s and crypto magnates who have embraced the possibilities â and volatility â of crypto currencies and come out on top.
