Govt has 'dropped the ball' on Covid-19 vaccine procurement. What now?

The South African government’s failure to procure a Covid-19 vaccine and implement a rollout plan timeously has sparked rage throughout the country. Implementing a successful vaccine programme will ‘help cut short the pandemic and yield immense direct savings on medical resources’, says Jonathan Katzenellenbogen. However, this end goal is still quite some time away, with South Africa reportedly months behind other countries. So what are we as South Africans to do? Stronger leadership needed to achieve our vaccine goals

Only after this, the HSE issued guidance on what should be done with spare vaccines and here’s a hint – it was not to give them to your kids. But the reality is no one is in charge of the vaccination programme. Prof Brian MacCraith, who is the Government’s go to chair du jour, drafted a plan and a very broad schedule for the order of administration.
