Conditions are so dry in Lake Tahoe that fire officials in the basin have already implemented strict rules, prohibiting wood campfires and charcoal grills to lower the risk of wildfires as summer crowds begin to gather in a tinder-dry forest.
Last week, North Tahoe and Meeks Bay Fire Protection Districts which span the northwest shoreline of Lake Tahoe, from Kings Beach to Emerald Bay announced a suspension on all solid fuel fires, including wood campfires or charcoal grills, for the duration of summer. The suspension will remain in place throughout fire season, which typically extends well into the fall and early winter.
