Teams protect hundreds of military working dogs from weather in Texas > Air Education and Training Command > Article Display

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas
The Warhawk Nation came together to protect their own Feb. 13, transporting 804 military working dogs indoors in preparation for severe winter weather in the Alamo Region.
The dogs, members of the 341st Military Working Dog Training Squadron, were well taken care of during their time indoors, ensuring their safety and well-being during the harsh conditions.
The week was anything but normal for the hard-working dogs.
“The military working dogs and the Transportation Security Administration working dogs are normally housed in outdoor kennel runs on both JBSA-Lackland and at JBSA-Chapman Training Annex,” said Lt. Col. Matthew Kowalski, squadron commander. “The 341st TRS has the capacity of housing more than 1,200 dogs in our facilities.” ....

DVIDS - News - Army veterinary team introduces point-of-injury care for animals during presidential inauguration

WASHINGTON, D.C U.S. Army Veterinarians and Animal Care Specialists from the 218th Medical Detachment (Veterinary Service Support) from Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, traveled to Washington, D.C., January 23-25, in support of the 59th U.S. Presidential Inauguration.
The team, consisting of two Veterinary Corps Officers and two Animal Care Specialists, supported 125 Department of Defense and Secret Service working dogs and 25 U.S. National Park Service working horses. As part of Joint Task Force-National Capital Region, their number one priority was providing veterinary medical care to the working animals.
Upon arrival, the team quickly identified both physical and administrative barriers that had reduced access to care for working animals in the past. Working with the Secret Service, they launched an innovative approach to ensure the animal teams received care when and where it was needed most. ....
