The UK and US governments are scrambling to update computer systems after government agencies were attacked as part of a months-long global hacking campaign.
In March, a Russian state-backed hacking group known as “Cozy Bear” gained access to software built by American business SolarWinds.
From there, it is believed to have used the software to get into the networks of multiple US government departments including the Treasury and Commerce departments.
Now, the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre is investigating whether UK government departments may also have been breached by Russian hackers.
