CHESTER city centre is open for business. As Covid restrictions eased on Monday, April 12, non-essential retailers and a raft of hospitality firms were able to throw their doors open to the public after more than three months of lockdown. And, unlike the last time Chester emerged from a lengthy lockdown in June 2020, visitors have wasted no time in heading to the city to indulge in retail therapy and enjoy food and drink in the outdoors. Chester city centre is open for business, despite the ongoing Northgate Development and Clockwise Chester works. The same restrictions largely apply for visitors – face masks are required inside and social distancing is still in place, while food and drink establishments can only serve customers outside at present. ....

Debenhams at intu Merry Hill INTU Merry Hill is set to lose its flagship department store following news that all UK Debenhams stores are to close. The administrators of Debenhams UK, FRP Advisory, have confirmed that boohoo group plc has signed an agreement to buy the Debenhams brands and websites but all UK stores are to close permanently. Boohoo group plc has paid £55million to acquire the global rights to the Debenhams brand and other business assets including all in-house brands and websites; which will take full effect following completion of the current stock liquidation programme which continues online. Once Debenhams stores are able to reopen when lockdown lifts and the stock liquidation can continue in stores – the website will be operated by boohoo. ....
