Inkhosi Siphamandla Khumalo and his wife, Queen MaDlamini Khumalo, have become the latest casualties in the assassination of traditional leaders in KwaZulu-Natal.
Though admirable, I find my mother Xoli’s faith immensely exhausting at times. By no means do I say this in a critical way but as a person who is obsessed with controlling nearly every aspect of my life, having a problem where the only solution is “prayer” or “talking to God” is just not the action point I need.
“Lord, I am grateful for the gifts of life, love and family” is how I persistently initiate my conversations with God. This is regardless of the subject matter of my communication; I simply begin with acknowledging the gifts bestowed upon me while continually expressing gratitude. My grandmother, uMadlamini, taught this to me at a tender age.
