Nelson Mandela University students, staff and alumni will share a virtual stage with hundreds of international performers on Friday in celebration of International Jazz Day.
The university’s Digital Isisusa Jazz Fest ’20, recorded without an audience in October, will be broadcast online as part of the #JazzDay10 edition of the Unesco International Jazz Day 2021 concert. ..

South African actress Dr Gcina Mhlophe is sharing the magic of storytelling in a webinar to celebrate International Mother Language Day.
Legendary performance artist and educator Dr Gcina Mhlophe will speak at the online launch of a new multilingual children’s story book on Thursday February 25.
To mark Unesco’s International Mother Tongue Day, which was on Sunday February 21, Nelson Mandela University has these activities lined up:
The release of the digital children’s story book,

NMU conductor rearranges Bill Withers classic in message of hope

The Bill Withers classic
Lean On Me now has a SA flavour after it was rearranged by Nelson Mandela University choir conductor Ulagh Williams as a virtual musical tribute to staff and students near and far.
Williams said the project had its inception in June when the university’s international office approached her to do a tribute to the students who could not graduate because of the Covid-19 lockdown.
“Others had to return to their respective countries of origin, unable to return to SA,” she said. ....
