Sask. mother forgives son's killer, but awaits closure

A 28-year-old woman has received a life sentence, with no chance of parole for 15 years, following a man’s death in west central Saskatchewan early last year. Shari Heathen was one of two people charged in the death of Braeden Sparvier. His lifeless, frozen body, was found Jan. 1, 2020, in a farmer’s field in the Rural Municipality (RM) of Frenchman Butte, west of St. Walburg. On June 11, Heathen pled guilty to second degree murder and during the court hearing at Battleford Court of Queen’s bench, Sparvier’s mother Karen Montana said she forgave Heathen. “I feel that’s what my son would want because I always told Braeden to forgive, no matter how much people oppose you and you’ve got to be willing to let go and move forward,” Montana explained to

Shari Priscilla Heathen, 28, is charged with second-degree murder in relation to his death. On May 25, defence lawyer Blaine Beaven told the Lloydminster Provincial Court that his client waived her right to a preliminary hearing and elected to be tried in the Court of Queen’s Bench. Bird charged with manslaughter in Sparvier's death | Battlefords News-Optimist

Shari Priscilla Heathen is charged with second-degree murder for Sparvier’s death. At her court appearance on April 19, her defence lawyer told the court that he had been in discussions with the Crown about a proposed resolution in her case. She appears next in court on May 25. Bird’s matter will be before the court again on May 19. The charges against Heathen and Bird haven’t been proven in court. Sparvier’s body was found on Jan. 1, 2020, east of St. Walburg in the R.M. of Frenchman Butte. Police say the investigation into Sparvier’s death is ongoing and they encourage anyone with information to call Turtleford RCMP at 306-845-4520.
