and flash floods. there is a lot of destruction. reporter: roads became rivers in the streets of cathedral city and entire neighborhoods within submerged in they re b near by springs into the early morning. piles of mud blanketing everything in sight. the mud inescapable for anyone attempting to get around. we re telling people if they don t have to be out, stay in their homes. one, the roads we re still assessing the damage and the places where there is still water and mud over the roads, we don t know how safe those are. reporter: jay spent the night into the morning rescuing drivers stuck on flooded and muddy roads. what kind of conditions were you seeing? cars floating and roads almost washed out. reporter: he echos the warnings. a lot are regretting it. two have dad s car and dad doesn t know yet, so i m guessing they are grounded. reporter: the area around palm springs saw nearly a year s worth of rain in just 24 hours.
