Shell goes big with charter deals for 10 new LNG-fuelled VLCCs


The charters on the newbuildings were signed in a virtual ceremony on Thursday.
The VLCCs will be built at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in South Korea, which booked the berths for the major in a letter of intent signed last year.
The vessels were priced at around $100 million each by the yard in a December statement.
Shell said the first vessel will be operational from 2022.
Fuel savings
The 10 vessels will be on charter to Shell for seven years.
Shell said the main engines and vessel design chosen for the ships will mean these tankers have the lowest possible methane slip and highest fuel efficiency . ....

Shell charters 10 dual fuel LNG VLCCs

Shell s crude oil tanker fleet will be 50% dual-fuel LNG powered come 2023 after it signed agreements to charter newbuilds from Advantage Tankers, AET and International Seaways.
Shell has signed agreements to charter 10 new VLCCs in deals which will mean that come 2023, 50% of its time chartered crude oil tanker fleet will be powered by dual fuel LNG engines.
All 10 of the vessels will be built in South Korea by DSME, with four ships from Advantage Tankers, three from AET and three from International Seaways. The first will enter service in 2022 on a seven-year charter to shell. ....
