Reader s View: Duluth Democrats distort Stauber s intent

Reader s View: Duluth Democrats distort Stauber’s intent The most recent Mclaughlin and Associates monthly national poll of likely voters (Republican, Democratic, and independent) reported that 46% believed there was election and voter fraud in the presidential race. Written By: Faith C. Loven, Duluth | 10:00 am, Jan. 3, 2021 × A letter sent to Congressman Pete Stauber from Mayor Emily Larson, City Councilor Arik Forsman, and St. Louis County Commissioners Patrick Boyle and Frank Jewell was disingenuous at best (“Duluth mayor, officials denounce Stauber,” Dec. 16). Several statements in the letter were a partisan distortion of the intent of the brief and, more importantly, the view of Stauber s support of the brief, along with more than 100 Republican members of Congress, an assault on democracy. They painted the effort of Stauber and his colleagues as tampering by politically ambitious individuals. They wrote, “In one stroke of your pen, you

Trump, targeting McConnell and top Republicans, urges them to get tougher in election fight

.@senatemajldr and Republican Senators have to get tougher, or you won’t have a Republican Party anymore. We won the Presidential Election, by a lot. FIGHT FOR IT. Don’t let them take it away! Trump charged on Twitter. McConnell, the longtime GOP senator from Kentucky who has led the Senate for the past six years, recognized Biden’s victory in a Tuesday speech on the floor of the Senate, the morning after the Electoral College formalized Biden’s victory over the president in last month’s election. McConnell also asked his Republican colleagues in the Senate not to try and contest the election results on Jan. 6, when a joint session of Congress formally accepts the Electoral College count. While some strong Trump allies in the House plan to call for a debate, McConnell’s move could effectively end any hopes of a last-minute reprieve for the president. A majority of both houses of Congress would be needed to upend the election results.

Reader s View: Vow not to blindly follow Trump was a lie

Are they afraid of a president who just got voted out by more than 7 million votes?  Written By: Eugene Gene Stevens, Duluth | 12:00 pm, Dec. 18, 2020 × Unfortunately, the Constitution does not allow for states to recall U.S. representatives. I do not believe the majority of Minnesotans were onboard with Reps. Jim Hagedorn of Minnesota’s 1st Congressional District, Tom Emmer of District 6, and Pete Stauber of District 8 joining an amicus brief filed to the Supreme Court in support of a suit brought by the Texas attorney general. This attorney general is currently under FBI investigation. Perhaps this was a show of loyalty for pardon quid pro quo, but what could possibly have been in it for these representatives from Minnesota?

Reader s View: District 8, take note of what Stauber did

Are you listening, District Eight? Written By: Dave Sherek, Biwabik | 10:00 am, Dec. 16, 2020 × On Dec. 11, Rep. Pete Stauber joined 125 members of the U.S. House, including a couple of others from Minnesota, to try to destroy our democracy by joining the ridiculous attempt to get the Supreme Court to overturn the election (“U.S. Supreme Court swiftly ends Trump-backed Texas bid to upend election results,” Dec. 11). Are you listening, District Eight? Dave Sherek
