in st. peter s and end when that iconic white smoke rises from the chimney of the sistine chapel. this morning in vatican city, the curtains being hung. a literal shrouding of the process to elect a new pope. fewer than 24 hours from now, the college of cardinals, made up of 115 cardinal electors, will move into the conclave house the santa marta in vatican city where they will be isolated from the rest of the world. that decision is a source of great anxiety, a sense of responsibility on your shoulders. the possibility that you might be elected makes it even worse. i think it s very natural for them to be a little bit terrified. reporter: at 10:00 a.m., they ll attend mass at st. peters basilica. we ll see the college of cardinals come in. the ambassadors of the countries will be here for that mass. reporter: in the afternoon, the cardinals will enter the sistine chapel, where they take collective and individual oaths. to faithfully observe the rules of electing a po
balloons. they do it almost every day. it s a fairly common activity. as we were coming in to land, i heard a loud explosion. saw smoke. i didn t realize it was another balloon. we were close to the ground. as you probably know, in the luxor, they burn the sugar cane. i assumed it was coming from the ground, not obviously one of the balloons. reporter: michelle said he couldn t see the other balloon until after his had landed safely. emergency vehicles started to arrive. over in next hour or two, we started to understand the extent of the tragedy. reporter: another woman described the scene to the bbc. it exploded in the air. and people were jumping out of the balloon. so, i believe they died out of jumping, not of the explosion. reporter: egyptian security reports three are being treated for their injures. and that the tourists included citizens of france, britain, belgium, hungary, japan and hong kong. that s not the first big crash at the site. 16 tourists were i
