every forecast, jonathan, suggests that we re going to see a straight lineup in terms of cases, but worrisomely hospitalizations and deaths because unfortunately, most american adults are not up to date with their boosters. you and i talked about this. this is an uphill climb to convince them to do so. now, we re relying on treatment tools and whether or not those are accessible. so we re vulnerable. we also know, jonathan, out of australia, they have a flu epidemic that precedes hours by six months. their flu season was pretty bad. one of the worst flu seasons they ve had in the last few years especially what s happening with the pandemic. we potentially have a few threats on the horizon here, not just covid. so what can be done right now? there is the new booster that s out. you were right that at least to this point, the rate of americans taking it very low, the administration trying to get that up, but also it doesn t have the funding to do much in the way of advertising for it.

the treatment tools that we have that we did not have at the start of the pandemic, have those been especially helpful there in new hampshire? there are certain treatments we do now that we didn t do at the beginning of the pandemic. it really doesn t change the overall course all that much once a patient is so sick on a ventilator. these patients still are on ventilators often times for weeks. we do have some medications and ventilator strategies that help. but unfortunately it s not a cure-all and despite the measures we do, a lot of patients are still dying. i don t think our outcomes are all that better than they were at the beginning of the pandemic. the patients we re seeing are sicker than they were at the beginning. they have higher complication rates. i don t think all that much has
to this variant. hearing dr. fauci talk about how our diagnostic tools and our treatment tools might need to change here to deal with omicron got me thinking about the idea that we re almost talking about two separate diseases at this point. the omicron being more contagious, potentially less deadly for vaccinated people. and the delta variant which is still out there killing thousands of americans on a weekly basis. is that a fair way to think about this, kind of like one disease that we re talking about and a vaccinated population, another disease out there ravaging largely the unvaccinated population? well, you know, i would take a step back and say that omicron is still a very big deal if you re unvaccinated. whether it s delta, omicron, i the more virus that you have in your body, what we know now from data that was actually released yesterday is that omicron likes to replicate and likes to house itself in the nose and respiratory tract. that s adam s apple
