Tonight, nat reed from california just outside l.a. has just completed one incredible lifelong journey. nat, who is 84, a vietnam war veteran, a retired u.s. navy captain and police officer. for years, serving his country, and then, taking every chance he could to see it. traveling across america by railroad on amtrak, keeping track of his routes for decades. his first memory of a train was traveling home with his family after saying good-bye to his father who was fighting in world war ii. after 80 years on the railroad, nat just completed the final leg of his quest, traveling all 21,400 miles of amtrak s railroad. his final journey, nat boarding the train in glendale, california, taking it to boston. then taking the trail 3 1/2 hours north to brunswick, maine. his train ticket in hand, checking out the postcards before he gets on. train conductors welcoming him aboard. at the end, a handshake from the
