Michael L. Thonney, sheep management expert, dies at 71

May 11, 2021 Michael L. Thonney, professor in the Department of Animal Science and director of graduate studies in the field of animal science, died April 23 in Ithaca. He was 71. Over a Cornell career that spanned more than 45 years, Thonney made numerous contributions to animal science and agriculture through research that enhanced year-round sheep production systems and nutrition of highly productive sheep. Kavous Keshavarz, poultry nutrition expert, dies at 82

January 28, 2021 Kavous Keshavarz, professor emeritus in the Department of Animal Science and an expert in poultry nutrition, died Jan. 7 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was 82. Keshavarz, who lived in Athens, Georgia, was well-known for his work on how nutrition affects egg size and eggshell quality in poultry, which provided important guidance for New York and Northeast egg producers. His program also provided a model for integrating applied research and extension to address important stakeholder issues.
